Why Dark Mode Matters #
This list is not about enforcing a certain theme, but about allowing the option to switch to dark mode when visiting a page. As a user of a service, you are the the mercy of the web devs putting the website together. If they (or their managers, or their managers' managers) think you should have full brightness and be happy with it, that's what you get.
Dark mode isn't just about aesthetics - it's about:
- Reducing eye strain in low-light conditions
- Saving battery life on OLED/AMOLED displays
- Improving accessibility for users with light sensitivity
- Providing a more comfortable reading experience
and most importantly, if your preference is dark mode on your OS, and most other websites and apps fall in line, you have that 2am glare scare when you open Google Docs and get blasted with a white screen.
Let's encourage these platforms to implement dark mode by raising awareness and providing feedback through their official channels.
